Thanks to some lovely new clients, we’ve been working in the arts space at Common Good lately, and it’s reignited something. A reminder to get back to going to shows, and to actually make the time for it, especially with some big festivals coming up.

But then we hit the same old problem. How do you choose? Unless you know a famous name, or you already know your stuff, picking a show can feel like a gamble. Get it right, though, and you get something rare. 

Theatre that connects. That challenges you. That leaves you thinking, what the hell was that, and why can’t I stop thinking about it.

So we sat down with Cian O’Brien, the brilliant bespectacled brain behind COBA: Cian O’Brien Arts, for a good ding-dong chat. Between us we picked five shows from the Festival and five from the Fringe, all worth your time.

Go and see something this September or October. Ideally something you wouldn’t normally choose. Get two tickets and give one to someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with. Watch the show together. Then compare notes afterwards, and find out if you saw the same show or not. That’s the joy of theatre.
